Assessment and Feedback at Ysgol y Graig
At Ysgol y Graig, assessment and feedback are used to move learning forward.
We believe that assessment should help teachers understand what pupils know, understand and can do, identify gaps or misconceptions, and decide the most appropriate next steps in learning. Feedback should be purposeful, timely and clear so that pupils understand how well they are doing and what they need to do to improve.
Our approach includes:
Assessment is not simply about collecting data. It should inform future planning, help teachers adapt teaching, identify where additional support or challenge is needed and ensure pupils continue to make progress.
We also want pupils to understand the feedback they receive and know how to act on it. As children become more confident, they are encouraged to reflect on their own learning, identify successes and take increasing responsibility for improvement.
Through Time to Shine, learner reflection and self- and peer-assessment, pupils are encouraged to think carefully about:
What am I learning?
How do I know if I have been successful?
What have I done well?
How can I improve?
What should I do next?
Our aim is for assessment and feedback to build confidence, independence and ownership, enabling every pupil to understand their progress and know how to move their learning forward.
